Can't get off

Can?t get off, my flywheel. The Black max 150 is a 1995 and it had a new power head in 97. To the best of my knowledge the flywheel has not been off for 10 years. I?m soaking it down with P.B. blaster and I?ve got my puller on it with max tension. I can?t work on the motor tonight so it?s going to sit until Thursday night. Hopefully it will loosen up by then. If not I?m considering using a big slide hammer. I am however concern that if I use the slide hammer it my pull to much on the shaft and possibly damage a baring or race or the crank case. If there is any body out there that can give me some advise concerning this it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Don't want to recommend a hammer as you have magnets in the flywheel and striking with a hammer will demagnetize them to some degree. Might add a premium penetrating oil to the interface while you are waiting and tightening and waiting.

Additionally, since the flywheel is alum and the crank is steel mild heat could help also as the wheel would expand faster than the crank. A heat gun, or hair dryer on high heat would work just fine.

Re: Can't get off

Thanks guys,

The reason I?m removing the fly wheel is the magnets have already came off and, it sure looks like the stator is now junk as well. There is a lot of rust on the underside of the flywheel and it made contact with the stator. This flywheel is steel not alloy, don?t know about the shaft??? Do they make a alloy flywheel now??? I think that would be better lighter and no rust.

hitting the flywheel can warp it and even crack it.

Re: Can't get off

I wasn?t advocating hitting the flywheel with a hammer. I was considering using a slide hammer to remove it if my stander flywheel puller won?t get the job done. A slide hammer doesn?t strike the fly wheel it?s like the body shop tool that pulls dents out of a panel. Amway this flywheel is junk and needs to be replaced I?m more concerned about the cost a new stator assembly. I thing it?s junk as well. When I get the flywheel off then I can check it out.
