can't get lower unit off

so i'm trying to get the lower unit off 1993 115hp evinrude. i took off all the bolts and got it to come apart about 1 to 2 inches but now it is like the shift rod is hanging up any ideas.

The shift rod needs to be disconnected under the bottom carburetor. It helps if the lower unit is back into position and the shift is in reverse.

Agree with DJ as above, I just took the lower unit off of a 1986 120hp and after disconnecting the shift rod I had to use a pair of needle nose pliars to turn the rod about a half turn clockwise and it fell right out. Now getting it back in should be tricky, half turn counter clockwise, and an extra set of hands. A friend told me not to spin the shift rod as this will affect its length and performance in the gear case.

ya thanks for the input i just found that out. i'm not sure where or how to disconect it yet but i'm sure i will figure it out tomorrow. thanks
