I have a 1975 65 horsepower Merc and I can't get the lower unit off. Have taken it off before and think I have all the nuts off but want to check. I have taken the one that holds the trim tab on off, the one under the trim tab off , the one underneath (above the prop) off, an the two at the front of the leg (at least I have moved them up ... they have 1/4 inch more to move but the leg won't drop and won't jack off the lower unit). Have I missed any? It seems like the drive shaft is stuck. Any hints?

Thanks!

Re: Can't get lower unit off

There should be one at the very front of the lower unit an above. Around where the transom mounts connect to the motor. Not sure about yours, but mine has 2 above the prop. Hopefully these pictures will help.

And these are above the prop on mine.

Hope this helps.

Re: Can't get lower unit off

Craig, thanks a lot.

Just got home from work and had a look. They are different. There is just one above the prop right in the center. I have the the two where you say "one on the other side" and as I recall I used these two to jack the lower unit off. The other one on top doesn't exist. I just put two big screw drivers in and it seemed like it moved down 1/16" more but thats it. Sprayed more WD40 into it and hope that helps.....will wait and see.

Thanks again!

Re: Can't get lower unit off

Not sure if you got it off yet but when I was pulling my leg off last week, I missed the bolt that is located under the little fin above and behind the prop and had the same thing you've got now. Would pull off about a 1/4" and then not budge. The fin on my O/B was held on with a 12point, 12mm bolt through the hole on top and the hidden bolt under was a 9/16".

Hope this helps.
