Ok I'm gonna start with what I have done already to get me where I'm at now. 88 donzi, mercruiser 3.0l .

New battery,New starter,New plugs,New wires,New cap,points,condenser. Point set at 22. I had timing ANF compression checked,Good.

So I could get the boat after cranking it forever but at high idle. I couldn't get it to idle below 1000 rpm and messing with the a/f mixture didn't help. It also was dripping gas out of the venturi. So I bought the rebuild kit and did it Saturday. The float was way off,set that. My plunger had a little tear in it so I replaced that. Got it all cleaned and put it back together and got it back on the engine. Primed it,then tried to start it. Did not run. The new plunger works as I can see it squirt gas, but the plunger pulls back down and I don't know if that's normal. The drip coming from the venturi is gone. So I continued to try and start this thing but with no luck. The a/f is set at 2 turns for now.

So any idea where I should be looking now? Carb is a Rochester 2 barrel.

Have you pulled the coil wire or spark plug wire to check for spark?

I have spark. I could get it started up to the carb rebuild.

You have spark, you have fuel "I can see it squirt gas" and yet it won't start. Something your seeing is not actually happening

Even if it was way out of time, there would be something

Yeah a guy I work with says like it sounds like a ignition problem. That doesn't make sense to me since almost everything that has to do with my ignition is new. And it ran before the carb rebuild. I'm gonna go back into the carb today after work. I don't know what it's gonna do but worth a try.

squirt some raw gas in the carb, if it runs you have a carb problem

Ok I lied about taking it to a mechanic. I got home and decided to pull the plugs real quick before bringing it in. They were wet and black. So I threw them in the spark plug cleaner then threw them back in the boat, cranked and she started right up. I feel like a dummy now but in my defense I was hot a frustrated.

Yup,but not by me. I've never been good with feeler gauges. A buddy from work offered to do them and so I let him.
