cant fix that prop

my prop is a model 48-65748 A1 -17p it has a 15 spline hub .
aluminum 3 blade on a 1970 -65 hp 650 merc .
can some one please explain all these numbers, i know 17p is pitch but what the heck is the rest of them mean ? im looking for a used prop and
i dont know the diameter as mine is missing alot off each blade.
what else will fit ? etc.
any help pls thks

Ayuh,... It's just a Part #... the 48- tells Me, it's a Merc. #...

For the 15 spline Merc props, they come in 2 flavors...

The 1s for the smaller/ older outboards with the 4" gear case...
Which'll have 4" prop barrel/ bodies...
And,...
The 1s for the Large gear case outboards,+ the I/Os with the 4, 1/2" gear cases,...
Which'll of course have 4,1/2" prop barrel/ bodies...

Generally speaking, the smaller 1s, like you need, the diameter is in the 12" to 13"+ range....
The larger 1s usually run from 14" to 15"+ range...

A Larger prop mounted on the smaller gear case will rub against the case....
A smaller prop on a larger gear case will Ventilate,... Very Badly....
But, Either size will mount on Either propshaft...

It is a 13 inch diameter three blade with 17 inches of pitch. Part numbers are a way for the manufacturer to build and identify parts. The number is just a number. In the manufacturing business any product that has more than one part is called an assembly. Each part in that assembly has a part number as well. Only identical parts will have the same part part number. Part numbers are used to order replacement parts from that manufacturer. Aftermarket parts suppliers would apply their own part number. It took nothing more than a 5 second Yahoo search to turn up what diameter this prop was. Now to order a new one, you no longer need to go to Merc. Go right here on IBoats, enter your engine make year and HP and you will be presented with a variety of props to choose from -- all specifically for your engine.

Here is some updated info from mercruiser about your prop with the part number you posted, You could still order it from any Mercury Dealer, Or you could more then likely find one online someplace, For example iboats i'm sure has one.
