we just moved to a new house and the new garage is about 2 feet too short. i already have the neck with the winch (whats that called?) as far forward as possible, so that it clears my tailgate by about 1/2 inch when i'm turning. the boat is a 18 1/2 foot lowe condor. overall trailer/boat length is about 22-23 ft long. is there any options to shorten it a couple feet. shorter trailer?????......anything but a smaller boat.

Matt, Do you mean you have a folding trailer tongue? If your boat fits then a fold-able or swing toungue added to your trailer should get you in. I'm sure you can get one on this site if you do a search.

Try a swing-away trailer tongue. Could save you a couple of feet or more depending on your setup.

Re: cant fit boat in new garage

My problem is is that I have the neck with the winch moved so far forward (shortening it for my last garage) that it is about 18 inchs from the ball, this is also where the tounge starts thicking up for more strength. If I add a swing away it will have to bolt up to ~18 inchs of the trailer in front of the winch neck....so I think that that would at best break even. Altho I got the gears turning.....what about putting a hinge behind the winch neck (what is that part called, the part where the rubber bow stop is) and also putting one on the neck. The hinge on the neck would have it swing away from the weight of the boat, and the trailer hinge would have it swing outta the way. Do you guys think that would work? Time to get out the torch!!!

your last idea won't work. extend the front of the garage, or cut a hole into the family room, and call the motor, 'art'

I notched my garage door once. Obvious what it was and it didn't detract from the frontal appearance of the place.

Mark, i've done the same thing on some old swinging barn type doors years ago. these new overhead rollers, don't like to be cut though. they will sag in an instant, if not reinforced.

Cut a hole in the rear of the garage, and add a doghouse type addition.
Then back the outdrive or outboard into the new addition.

Who in the world is building all these tiny little garages?

Hear you tas on the sag. When I was a kid we had one that sagged so bad you couldn't drive a vehicle under it.
