Can't find thermostat for 91 60hp Johnson.

Looked for thermostat for my 91 60 hp johnson in the parts section but no joy. The thermostat isn't the metal one its the white plastic one. Would it be OK to install a metal one from around the same year model? I was having a problem w/ the engine overheating after about three miles of cruising. Could not run at WOT. There's a good water pump in this unit so I imediatly went to the thermostat. Ran the motor w/o thermostat and it never ran so good. I know I shouldn't run w/o so thats why I am looking for replacement. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If changing, the replacement thermostat complete is a black plastic and new seat. Change Thermostat, spring and seat to be sure you get the correct balance.

At the same time, modify the Pee outlet and move to the top of the cylinder.

WOW!!! Thanks for the parts link! Could you please elaborate on moving the pee outlet to the top of the cylinder. Why? and what is the difference of it being in the top or bottom? Thanks for your help
