..for my 72 Cox trailer that apparently has 1.437 inner bearing bores and 1" outers. None of the sets I have located have this combination. Is this an obsolete combination?

I'm thinking my next bet is to try to locate individual bearings and cones by the numbers on them. Any other sources I should check?

Thanks,
Bill

I think the numbers from the bearings will be your best bet. Napa auto parts will look up the bearings by number and will probably be able to get what you need.

The other thing to do is do a yahoo search on the bearing numbers and see where you can order them from yourself.

I needed a magnafying glass to read the numbers off my bearings due to rust. A little sand paper makes it easier to read.

Good luck

You don't need to buy the bearings in sets. The one inch bearing is standard and is available individually. The inner bearing can be cross-referenced through the number.

Found them at NAPA but paid much more than if I could have paid for a set at Northern Tool or one of the online trailer parts companies. But all is well with my trailer now. Just waiting for it to cool off enough to go boating.;)
Thanks for all the advice fellas. :)

Yep, I paid about $66 for bearings, races, cotterpins, seals (in a blister pack kit) to do two hubs. Tub of grease was another 2 or 3 bucks.

Could have ordered them online for about $15 a piece for the same kits, plus $8 shipping. But I needed them NOW, not next week. I called the NAPA store at around 9 am and picked them up on the way home at 4pm. Had the bearings installed by 7pm, and that included time for dinner.

Online orders are great if you can wait for the parts, but if you need it now, you pay the retail price.

I figured it was worth the extra 28 bucks to be able to leave for vacation on time.

Online bearings were probably Chinese. While I have nothing against Chinese merchandise, I find that they are incapable of making a knife with steel good enough to hold an edge. Although bearings by definition must be hardened to a certain rockwell number, I still don't trust them. I prefer to pay more for brand name bearings--even though most are now not made in USA. Just my feelings.

Yes, I agree with your statemnt. The bearings I bought had the same name on them as the bearings I replaced.

If they were made in the USA, great. If not, what can you do when they have you over a barrel?

Please, don't get me started on the Chinese, or the myth of anything of quality coming out of China. I curse them on a daily basis as a machinist, mechanic, and red blooded American.

Nuff said IMHO.
