I purchased a download file of a service manual for the engine and found it to be sorely lacking in many respects. I want to buy a genuine factory manual but have not yet found one for the 1986. I did find a used 1987 available at a reasonable price. Would that be essentially the same as the 1986 version? Thanks for your thoughts.

Not sure how hard you have looked, but they are certainly available on eBay.

I looked on Ebay. I have seen some manuals that cover a range of models but would prefer the manual specific to just my engine. I may be wrong but I don't think they made many if any changes to the 1987 model. If someone knows more about that I would love to hear from them.

That seems to be the way that OMC published.
I have an E'rude 6hp from 1975....my manual is model specific.
I also have a 1992 8HP. That manual covers 4, 6, and 8 HP models.
There is no skimping on details and it covers the 8 HP as well as I could hope.

From outboardbokks.com It appears to cover all models fro 60 hp upwards but specifically for 1986

There is a different manual for 1987 !

ITYWF that the manuals on Boatinfo are the Seloc manuals covering a large number of years and hp sizes

Factory manual for 86 model 2 cylinder 60 and 87 model 2 cylinder 50 would be the same thing.

Thanks to all for your inputs! I am pretty sure the 1986 and 1987 60 hp motors are the same so I ordered a manual for the 1987.
