Can't find fuel filter for 1972 6hp Johnson 6r-72d

As the title says, I can't find the part # for a fuel filter for 1972 Johnson 6hp 6R-72D I need either a rebuild kit or if I have to buy the filter I will. The motor starts then stops right after. I plan to rebuild the carb and fuel filter/fuel lines. I was able to find the carb kit here on iboats.

The only fuel filter on that motor is a screen behind the black plastic cover on the fuel pump. Is that what you are looking for? It is part number 312633, gasket is 338876. But the filter rarely needs replacement....just clean it.

If you have something else on your motor, somebody has added it. Not Johnson.

You're right I worded it wrong. My screen filter is fine, I do need the gasket. The pump looks ok I guess, how will I know if the fuel pump is ok? When I originally said filter was thinking change the whole pump with filter because it's old. I know I need to redo the carb I suppose it makes sense to do that, and the filter gasket then see what happens

I can see the screen is ok, if I pump the bulb and fuel flows through then the fuel pump should also be ok? The motor has sat for a good 5+ years without running. Every year or so I'll pull it out try to start it, runs for a few sec then dies and back on the shelf it goes haha When I first got it it had that problem, cleaned the carb and it ran good for a few trips then right back to the same thing. I was told I probably had gunk in the fuel line or pump that clogged it right back up.

I have no idea why folks want to rush out and buy a new pump.....Factory offers a repair kit with instructions.--That pump was used for many years and models in one form or another.---Keep looking and you will find the kit !
