I got this old 15 HP motor, and can't find any info on it. I mean there is nothing no model#, no serial#, nada. Please if anyone knows a trick or two to find it, it would be appreciated. Oh yeah, it is a johnson, im thinking from the 50's.
Well, if it is infact a Johnson and it's a 15hp from the 50's, then it could be none other than a 1956 model. The years prior to that (1953 - 1955) the 15 hp was under the Evinrude name only. In 1957, the 15hp was bumped up to 18hp.
Thanks everyone, I found the plate under it looks like house paint. The # is there, and it is an evinrude 53-54. Do you think an after factory paint job will decrease value alot. The cover is metal, almost thin like aluminum.
What would something like this go for in price nowadays. I have the old split tube connector for the gas connection on the side, and an old gas can as well.
These are excellent motors though and would be great to put to use. Ignition parts and impellers are readily available here. If you needed to go any further into it, the rest of the parts can be found with a little searching.
