I have been pouring over the internet looking for a suitable canoe seat for my Grumman square back canoe. I am around 250 and have a bad back. After about 30 minutes, my back starts screaming without any kind of back support. I always sit in the rear of the canoe and it doesn't have a typical bench type seat, but rather is wide flat surface. I cannot find a decent canoe seat that would attach to that kind of canoe seat. I prefer to not drill holes in my canoe, but if necessary, I would if I could find a good seat that would work. I also run an electric trolling motor on the back that I need to be able to reach.
Here is the best photo I have of the canoe seat that I would need to attach the canoe seat to. As you can see, there is no way to get any straps or hooks around that. If you have any recommendations, let me know. I thought about one of those swivel seats you find in a lot of boats, but I would prefer something more compact and removable if possible.

I have these boat seats on my jon boat, they might not look like much, but they are comfortable. (The seats I have are padded, about 1/2" thick padding, link is the closest I could find on iBoats.) I had back issues, been OK for the past 5 years, but these seats were comfortable when I was dealing with back pain. I troll, and can sit in these seats for hours on end... The seats are mounted on 1" high seat swivels.

The canoe's bulkhead looks really long, weird seating position. You could T-nut the seat and swivel to a piece of 1/2" plywood, cut to fit the bulkhead top. Couple strips of 2" wide industrial strength Velcro front/back will keep the plywood attached, but removable. When I apply Velco in an application like this, I take a razor blade and chop off 2-3 rows of "hooks" from the Velcro's edge, so when you separate it, it doesn't pull the adhesive backing.

Keep in mind that in something like a canoe, literally every inch you raise the height of your seat you really affect the stability of the canoe.

Marine grade plywood 15 degrees on the angle of the back rest. Sometimes you just have to make it yourself.
