Cannot get out of forward

I recently converted my 5.0L from old fashion carb to fuel injection. Seems like a great change (to fix my flooding issue), but on the initial shakedown trip my boat would not get out of forward, not even neutral. I came back to the slip (a little hot) and shut down the engine. On restart, it was in neutral, and would shift into reverse, but if I put it in forward, it would lock up every time. I'm guessing it is the shift interrupter, but don't know why or what to do. For reference, my idle speed is 900 RPM, and will not adjust any slower.

During the install, did you do anything to the shift cables and or shift plate mounted on the starboard side exhaust manifold?

Also, try disconnecting the throttle cable from the throttlebody stud and see if the RPM will come lower…< plus make sure the holding “nut” is backed off from full tight one full turn so the washer spins.

What EFI system did you install?

No work was done near the shift cables. I have disconnected the throttle cable and it will not come back any further. Also, the Idle screw is not even touching the Throttle Body lever. The Throttle plates look completely closed.

The system was provided by Performance Fuel Injection Systems. So far very happy with Kevin Witte.

Based on a mechanics recommendation, I worked to new TB until i got the RPMs down to 620. At that engine speed, the shifter works just fine. Evidently that is key to making the engine shift properly.

Glad you solved it, 900 to 650 RPMs is significant. 900 will make it difficult to disengage.
