I just bought a 1975 American 23' sailboat that has a Honda 2 cylinder, 4 stroke, CDI outboard motor. It is all dark blue with a white engine cover with faded graphics on the side. It also has 2 wires that run from the motor to the battery, presumably for charging. There is also a green light next to the choke knob that I've been told is a charging indicator light.......So those are the clues....Now what motor do I have??? I have the motor on a stand in my garage and cannot find any model or ID # stamped into it......There is a plate riveted to the side of the unit just below the engine cover but it is blank....

Honda currently puts a serial number on both the frame and the block...I think they did the same back in the late 70's and early 80's which from your description sounds like your years...try looking on the block for possibly 4 letters then 7 digits...the green light is OIL PRESSURE-if it goes to red shut the motor off
