I've noticed, what I think is a New York State motor vehicle sticker on the bow of Canadian licensed boats. I'm assuming these boats frequent NYS waters. What are the requirements to get one of these stickers? Does the boat have to be inspected? Where would I go to find out more info? Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Rick

Hey Ricksrster

Close but still doesn't answer my question. I've sent the DMV an e-mail asking for clarification. Thanks.

Rick

You don't say Why you're asking,..??....

I can tell you that if your boat is properly licenced in Ontario,.....
You Don't have to licence in NY,.... There's a reciprocal agreement between the 2 governments.....

And,.... In NYS,... There's No inspection required,... They just want your Money.....

I believe you can operate an out of state registered boat in NY for up to thirty days without registering it in NY. An Ontario registraton operated by a visiter fron Ontario should be OK.

Hey guys, thanks. The wife and I were just discussing a possible Erie Canal trip next year and that little issue was in the back of my mind. I remember seeing some Cdn boats with the sticker. The Other Gary told me that boats over a certain length have to provide proof of taxes paid so that might be the actual issue. It's hard enough nowadays trying to figure out the maze of gov't regulations for cross border travel and I work for the Cdn Coast Guard! Thanks again. Have a safe boating season!
