I have a motor that was used this summer, but it has now changed boats, I have only bolted it to the new boat and I haven't yet set everything up. My question is it possible a winterize it correctly(without running) there isn't electric set up? Yes I know I can/have changed the foot oil, all gas has been removed from tanks, but whats the best way to be sure water if any is in the motor...also how can I fog? Thanks for any ideas or ways to keep me from making mistakes on a good motor.

You may easily winterize a non-operating motor. Pull the plugs and spray the fogging oil into the cylinders. You can turn the flywheel by hand to move the fogging oil around, then reinstall plugs. If the carbs are dry. leave them alone, if not drain them. Hit the grease fittings with the grease gun, spray some anti-corrosion spray onto the block. Put the motor in the verticle position so all water will drain. You changed the gearoil, right?

Thanks Chris, and yes I did change the gear oil already. I just had the carbs rebuilt about a couple of months back. Not to keep asking stupid questions, but what is the best way to turn the flywheel? Long strap?

If you have one a pull rope works, well if not just turn by hand to move the oil around . You can fog the through the carbs the same way spray fogging oil using the small tube that should come with the can spray and turn each carb you need to open the throttle up all the way. spray past the carbs

Samm, Don't sweat it. You are listed as being in Georgia, so it won't get too cold for too long and 2 cycle outboards do not really need much to be winterized. The gear oil change is a must, but the fogging oil is only to prevent rust. Now you already have 2 cycle oil in the motor, and over the course of your winter, that should suffice. The stabilizer is to preserve the fuel, but again your short winter almost removes that requirement.

Yea, here in the tundra where it gets to 20 below some days, there can be a half inch of frost on the metal when the air warms up suddenly. Severe fogging is needed to keep that moisture off the working parts.

Down south, just spray a little fogging oil in where you can get it to go, turn it over with a wrench a couple of turns, and forget it.

Don't cover it with a tight cover. It's made to be in the weather, and a tight cover keeps condensation from evaporating and escaping when it warms up.

hope it helps
John
