I broke the gear end off of the tiller bar trying to force turn the throttle. Can I weld it back together with an arc welder?

There are ways to repair stuff.-----Picture helps to determine.----Do you have a part # of this ---" tiller bar " ?-----I can not recall any part called a " tiller bar " on this motor !

depending on actual shaft size ......tried drilling tapping and bolting it back in one piece ?

welding seems possible with those wire feed welders

Big $$$ item.----I had better not throw any more of them out.----Your location ?-----I would make a replacement myself !---Your local machine shop could make that part.------You could get it welded I suppose.----So many options.

I can think of a couple ways to go about this but the welding option would be to drive the pin out and remove the gear. Then bevel the rod ends and weld it back together and drill the pin hole again.
Best of luck

Make it more robust then when it left the factory.-----Perhaps a piece of 3/8 stainless rod or tube.-----If using the tube then cut and fit pieces into it.----Perhaps 5/16" bolt in either end.-----I am just pulling sizes at random but you get the idea.-----No way would I pay to get that welded,---Certainly not with an arc welder !!-----" Lumiweld " rod perhaps.----Some will argue.----Easy fix here.-----Note ---pay attention to the location of a pinned hole so that your throttle grip markings line up reasonably close.-----Carbon fiber rod would really make it bomb proof.

brass gear and steel shaft...... no welding

you could braze it. however i would make a new shaft, or repair the shaft and re-pin

Actually I think the gear is a ---" sintered " ---material and hard to weld that stuff..----I believe the OP now has enough ideas to repair this simple part.

there is a cross pin in gear pice. just punch out this pin and push out this broken piece of aluminium rod.
buy 50 cm new aluminium rod with dia 8 mm or 10 mm and meke new gear shaft rod.
you dont need to play with welding

The cross pin is hard to see in the photo supplied by OP but this seems to be a winning solution based on this parts picture

That has to be drilled in the correct position to line up the throttle grip.-----The OP is busy making a replacement I would say.
