A good reference? You might try going to www.nissanmarine.com and emailing them your info and have them look it up for you. There is no hidden "code" in their serial numbers that will tell you. You just have to ask 'em.

They don't sell parts online. That is the Nissan Marine division headquarters and they don't sell parts direct. You'd have to order through a dealer. The BEST place to buy on-line is from Elvin @ Avalon Professional. Website is internetoutboards.com

fishon71 I have pretty much the exact motor. (Dark blue shaft with a silver hood with red & blue graphics?) This will be my 3rd season with it. I've not had any problems with mine - though I replace gear oil and put a new set of plugs in every spring. I also disconnect the fuel line and run all the gas out of it before pulling up the ramp.<br /><br />If you do need any parts, visit Elvin at internet outboards - he is also a member here on the Nissan forum:<br /><br /> http://www.internetoutboards.com/ <br /><br />BTW - did you know your 9.9 is really a 15hp in disguise? You only need to change the carb. cam which allows the butterfly on the carb. to open further and voila! 15hp in 9.9 clothing. I fish mainly on 10hp lakes and my boat is a little large for a 9.9 - so it makes a big difference on the top end.
