I have been watching the Bass Masters Classic. The Pro's use all sorts of boats. No particular manufacture or model. I have noticed that most, but not all, have what looks like PVC pipe attached to the transome of the boat. Some have two, (one mounted on each side of the motor), some have just one. What are these?

Shallow water anchors. Usually hydraulic.

Of course I don't know what images you are recalling, but that was the first thing that crossed my mind. But I don't follow bassmasters so I haven't seen them on bass boats myself, just on other fishing boats.

These are very common with flats/bass fisherman because often times you fish water that is less than 8 feet deep. A lot easier than dropping the anchor every time you come across a hot spot.

They are transom mounted potato guns for chasing off skiers and jet fleas.

AIM..........FIRE!

(An M-60 might be a little too agressive.)

So that's why the new E-Tec's have the fitting on the case labeled "Optional Launching/Spud. See Authorized Dealer" LOL

Thanks for the response but I think you all are all wet. I'll go to a different site for my questions and answers. I was going to give away a large amount of money for the right answer. Too bad, times up.

Ummm:eek:... you're joking, right? We actually did answer your question, just had a little fun afterwards.

They really are shallow water anchors based on your description- see Marchosia's link: http://www.power-pole.com/

Unless you fish tournaments for money, i can't see spending that kind of money on a boat anchor.

You're no fun. Doncha know that you'll never catch another bass unless you have all the latest stuff used by the pro tournament guys? The bass know. They do. Show up in your little aluminum boat without all the latest gear and they just sit there, laughing at you. "That's no Kevin Van Dam...it's some amateur." I can hear them now.

You need to getchu one a them bottom-stabbers right away if you're ever going to catch any bass. :D

Re: Can you tell me what these are?

yea, $1300 bucks is a little expensive for a 6 ft Anchor.
You could probally make one your self for really cheap. Just put a bar on a hinge, and throw it down when you want to stop.

Yeah that's Right! I was thinkin bout making a flag pole mounted on the transom with couple of quick release eyes to hold it in place. Lossen em up and anchor goes down.:)

Re: Can you tell me what these are?

I would have more use of the spud attachment suggested earlier. In my area the lakes have deep "V" bottoms that you cast to the shore to fish. Therefore a 6 foot anchor cannot replace a electric trolling motor.

But the spud gun would be great. It could probably double as a weight shooter.

I think it would be an awesome challenge to high-lob big Maine tubers at jet skiers :D and wakeboard boats doing transom plants ;) when I am trying to fish
