hi guys. i'm new here, but have to start with a problem.
just got another outboard onto my ski boat after last one failed. private seller told me its a 1992 115hp, with wrong cover that says 90. then later i saw on engine mount is the serial which is for 1986 90hp. seller looked kind of honest and sold it cheap so i wasn't worried, he installed it as well. but now i'd like to know what it is what i got. i try to put some pics, maybe someone can tell from these .? year and hp? it seemed slower than my last 1977 115hp johnson, but maybe its just prop (solas steel 13,5 x 15)
thanks

what rpms are you pulling with that 15" prop? As for the motor... cowl says 90hp, model says 90hp(six years older than what seller says), Does the serial number on the transom bracket match the serial number on the plug(should be on the top of the port cylinder) on the block?

serial on transom bracket is AJ90TLCDC which means 1986 90hp. but im not sure if thats original
number on plug (silver thing on top of engine) 0432290. couldn't find any info on this.
sorry don't know rpms, i don't have a tacho. don't want to buy separate, i need to fill 5 holed in dash. anyway i try to figure out what engine it is first, if its really 1986 90hp i try to get refund. maybe someone can tell just by looking at it what year and hp?

model identification 5.jpgYour pictures don't show the important aspect of the block-the rear. Easy to tell if it is a 110/115-they have the bubble back exhaust. I can't see that aspect from your pictures, but that curved appendage is not evident on that block from the pictures provided. Your engine may be a combination of different year parts. The early Johnson blocks (1984 and earlier) were painted the same color as the engine-white. Starting around 1985 all engines were painted entirely black. You've got a black engine with a white intake manifold. Possible the powerhead was a factory warranty replacement block. Many of those core plugs on the top of the replacement block provided little useful information. Sometimes the factory replacement blocks had add'l information stamped on the top of the block-see picture of a factory replacement 150 block. The carb linkages are from 86 and later.
