Can You Run This Sterndrive On Muffs?

I just recently bought a 1985 Sea Ray with an OMC 3.0L 140hp motor and a OMC400- sterndrive with mechanical shift, and my question is it Ok to run this set up on muff. The boat has not been ran in a year, and the old owner told me he last ran it on muffs. The reason I am asking is my uncle said he had a sterndrive burn up because he was running it on muffs?

yes u can run it on muffs dont go over 1200 -1500 rpms at least thats what the book says.never run it with the drive up. good luck with the stringer i have the same one with a 2.5l same block a little less hp
