Can you put a 898 Merc Pre alpha on a 85' Sea Ray with a 5.7/alpha

I just bought a 25' sea ray with a 5.7 that is missing the outdrive. My uncle has a really nice pre alpha outdrive from a 898 Merc driveline that he would give me for free. I thought I read somewhere that the 898's would have a 1.5 gear ratio outdrive like a gm v8. Would the pre alpha bolt up to the boat?

I hear some of the 898s are 1.65:1 ratio,.... Might need a taller prop...
