am thinking about getting a buddies 64 75hp starflite for my classic woodie.at present im using a 1982 90 evinrude that would be taken off and stored in the garage just in case!now to a little problem ,the 75 had cable{closeline style} steering, the 90 has the newer style single cable.the 75 does not have the through tube, can one be made for it? or do i have to figure something else out.the reason for wanting the 75 is for purely looks and nothing else.

I think the after market makes a through tube that is held on by the mounting bolts. You might try a search, I think I remember some one doing it in the past.

yes i found the one your talking about .i was wondering if on the motor i seen the place where the though tube would go and wonder if my 90 tube would fit or if you,d have to or could drill out to accept a tube.there,s just a bolt so far as i can see.this is all moot i guess until i figure a way to make by buddy feel so bad about not giving me the motor he breaks down and i get it ,lol.really its just sitting there and it would look so cool on my woodie,a classic for a classic!etc etc!

I do not think you can retrofit that old motor. You would need to purchase the steering rod support tube and clamp from Teleflex, which bolts to the splashwell.
