Short sad story.
Trim pump failed on my 88 alpha one.
Disconnected lines at marina to trailer home.
Installed new pump motor. Bled system.
Snapped the tail on the upper gear housing.
I did not realize at the marina I crossed the lines. The trim cylinders twisted the housing and it snapped. I feel awful about it. We were going out today.
The system functions now that I switched the lines. A new housing is 600.00.
It appears I could have this welded however.
The boat is on a trailer. Would any of you have thoughts about this repair?
Appreciate the help.
-br

I am not exactly sure what broke from your description, but JB Weld is always worth considering. A friend repaired the ear of his gimbal ring with it several years ago and the repair has held to this day.

The upper gear housing cracked about 1 inch in front of where the zinc trim anode screws into the bottom of the case. If I were to unscrew the bolt holding the trim anode; I could lift the broken part off the stern drive. Could you elaborate on JB weld?

JB weld wont hold. a competent welder can make a permanant repair. it wont be pretty but it will hold. ask him to add extra stock on the top surfaces.
