My uncle wants me to get him a replacement carb, accelerator cable, powerpack, and head gasket and piston rings for this particular outboard. The problem is that he cant supply me with the model number. Apparently it fell off. He has sent me these pictures and ive attempted to do some research on the different models out there and ive come to the point where all i know is its a manual pull start, 2 stroke, gasoline motor. He claims his buddy has one thats almost like his and his is made in 1979. Can anyone help me identity the model number of this outboard motor? I cant see the motor myself because its in Honduras and im in New York. He speaks spanish and my spanish isnt very good. Thank you for your time.

Hoo boy, lets hope somebody recognized the decals. It is obvious that it is a 40hp Commercial model. But a quick glance at the list shows 64 commercial 40hp models built between 1977-1999.

1990 or newer based solely on throttle linkages..----Take it apart, measure bores and order parts accordingly.

Decal appear similar to a 1997 model.-----But judging by some of the wiring changes all bets are off.-----Send me a case of beer then I do more looking.

Thank you guys for your analysis. Id gladly buy anyone a case of beer if they were within arms reach. Its just too bad the motor isnt. I think what you were saying is a good idea raerone. Ill have him remove the head and get the bore size for the piston rings. Perhaps then I can get him to locate the part number for the head so i can get the right one and then ill just go from there. This is too complicated to do over the computer without the motor.
