can you get more than 80hp from a 80hp merc.?

I am planning on buying a new 16-18 foot boat(brand new). I am rebuilding my 80hp merc. rather than buying a new $10,000 motor. But todays boats all seem to be built large and made for large outboarde (in excess of 100 hp) So my question is this......Is there anything I can do to my 80hp merc. while its apart to give it a little kick? I would think that this 4 cyl block must have been used for a 90 or 115 hp motor at some point in time.......no?

for the most part mercury outboard engines are pretty much hot rods stock.<br />there are some modifications but like said earlier. it would cost alot more than it would be worth.<br />it most likely be cheaper to sell the used 80hp and buy a used 115-150hp if you want more HP.
