Can water get in motor oil from not being used?

I had my OMC Cobra 5.0 winterized. The motor oil was milky brown. This boat was sitting all year without a cover on in the elements. Could water or condensation get in the motor and cause this condition? Or am I just wishfull thinking? :)
If so where should I start looking?

Iv seen a couple of times where water dripped onto the flame arrestor and then dripped down the carb. This in turn got the oil milky with water.

dave, you can check with trent, but I would change the oil now. and run the engine up to temp with the new oil, then drain it and change the oil again......just a thought

Oil doesn't get milky from sitting. It has to run to mix the water with the oil so water was in the oil before the last time you ran the engine. Get the oil out and will probably take several changes to get it clean again. If the milky oil comes back, you probably have a riser leaking water back thru the exhaust. To check this, after running the engine, let it sit over nite and pull the sparkplugs. Roll the engine over and see which cylinder water shoots out of.

The oil is out. This was discovered when winterized.(oil changed) then. They ran 2 extra qrts. through engine to clean all water out.

Ken, These trouble shooting test you wrote about,
can I do this since it was just winterized?
