Thats like putting worn out tires on your car. If the reeds lifespan is over, it would be in yours, and your motors best interest to replace them. For the few bucks, it isn't worth the hassle of taking your carbs all apart to reuse old ones. Good luck.

put in new 1ns.if you use old 1ns they will break from being bent the other way then you have real problems because they go right into the cylinders then you need a new block its not worth it for a few dollar reeds

Yes to the first & we can't hear the noise on this forum very well so can't help there. Ah - most motors make noise.

Re: can the reeds be flipped

Hi ocean goin

My manual says it is ok for the reed leaves to be slightly open at rest, as long as they clouse without any resistance. If the motor does not spit fuel back through carbs, the reeds functions well. The manual also says DO NOT turn reeds, they will break. I once turned one before i got my manual, and it broke a leaf. DONT DO IT. You can hear a VERY week sharp noise from the reeds in some angles in the boat at WOT. Hard to hear through other engine noise. If you have excessive noise, you probably have faulty gaskets, bad bearing or piston slop - my guess.

Can you?? Yes! You CAN do whatever you like!! Should you ?? NO!!! But you can "relocate" them by loosening them up and repositioning them. Most engines torn down for inspection will show a few that do not sit fully closed, but they should be such that minimal "suction" would close them against their seats!! Can you "hear" reeds that are "open"?? I doubt it! But a motor with a broken reed will show signs of running/idling like c@*p!!!
