Can someone please tell me what this is for?

I have a 92 kawasaki 650 TS and there is a cable operated valve under the seat attatched to the exhaust elbow. What is this for? and should i remove it and replace it with a block off plate?

that is to open the crank case and allow water to drain out if the engine gets sunk,, don't mess with it most of them are frozen up and don't work.

ok i was just wondering because i have the engine apart and i saw a ad for a block off plate on ebay and was wondering if i should get it. It does work though. But i read that it will lean out the engine if it leaks and i dont want that. would you suggest blocking it off?

Also can i lightly hone the cylinders of this engine or does it have a protective coating or something that is not suppose to be honed? I just want to put a light crosshatch and clean up the walls a little they have very fine scratches. Or should i just leave it?

And one more thing i cleaned the crank with some solvant at work with those enviromental parts cleaners. Should i prelube the crank bearings with 2 stoke oil or something before i put it back together?

hopefully you remembered what rings went with each piston and each piston to the cylinder it came from,, there is no coating on the cylinders,, if you hone it you should replace the rings with new ones,, also see what the end gap is for the rings if you plan on reusing them, max gap .026,end gapping tells you how worn out they are. As for blocking off the drains probably would not hurt as it can cause issues if those leak air.
as for oiling parts,, if you clean all the oil off you need to apply oil immediately,, letting parts sit without oil will cause rust really fast.

yep i paid attension to which cylinder they came out of. I havent pulled the rings yet but i will to check the gap and i will be sure to keep them on the same pistons. Thanks for all the help.
