Can removing 64 evinrude 3hp armature plate change timing?

I want to take off my armature plate to clean the dirt off the motor and fix the bent throttle lever. Is there a certain adjustment that the plate is set at? I dont want to screw up timing or anything.

Just nuts and bolts work.

It's just held on by 4 bolts - 2 thru the coils and two right through the plate. Remove them and lift the plate off. The only tricky part for a newby is to line up the bolt holes when re-installing.
