Hi guys I have posted various issues on this motor and I am ready to deep 6 it. I have a 96 50hp J50TLED, I have rebuilt the carbs, link & Synch, new VRO, New Plugs, New Coil (1 Coil unit runs both cyl), Timing set using Joe Reeves Method and I still have the following:

1) A lot of smoke and greyish oil "boogers" in the water when it starts (starts right up)

2) Rough Idle

3) *Most annoying* No Top End, I can only get Max 4000 RPM with an empty boat biminy down. ( 20ft pontoon) 3500 with passengers.

*I know it is not prop related I have several friends with the identical motor / prop / boat set up that get to 5500RPM all day long.

What am I missing? I have spark at Idle, could it get 4000RPM if it were dropping a cylinder at higher RPM? Could this be power pack related?

I really need some solid advice, thanks in advance

What did it turn when you first got it? How long have you owned it? Some history please.

BTW, it would never get the boat on plane if running on one cylinder. You don't have to beg here.

I have owned it for 3 years when I first bought it it would turn 5000+ but had a rough idle. I brought it to a mech. and they did a link and synch, after that i started having the issues. I essentially bought a manual and started at square one re-tuning everything.

I did do all of the carb cleaning, in detail, removed everything put it all in a vibrating parts cleaner with carb cleaner, blew everyting out, removed the orifice plugs blew that out replaced plugs and replaced everyting with carb kit contents, Set float height etc.

Tasha's Daddy, compression was 148ish on both cylinders, but while I was checking compression I noticed that the Tan Wire to the Temp sensor was broken where it connected into the rubber barrell connector. I was able to pry separate the rubber connector, remove the metal terminal pry it open and recrimp the Tan wire into it..........VOILA.....Engine is now runnign like a CHAMP!!!!!!
