Can mounting sides on Evinrude controls be switched?

Have 1984 115 Evinrude outboard I am mounting on Center Console. I just want to mount it to the right hand side of the console. It was previously mounted on left hand side of boat ( as most are). can you take shifter handle out and mount on other side also has the saftey switch that will have to be moved. Also how do you remove handle? I took out the allen screw and tapped it a few times but it will not budge.

As far as I know the controls are usually mounted to the right (starboard) side whether a center console or conventional setup.Driver on the starboard side to conteract the natural prop torque of the motor.The very few I have done with a single lever you just bolt it up.A picture would make it easier to tell what model control you have and we may be able to help with disassembly.You will have to use a service like photo bucket.

found out it can be done, just had it switched over to left (port) side mount for mounting on a center console.
