Can impeller make pull start hard to pull?

So im having trouble pull starting my motor. I have a 1985mercury 35 hp. When motor is cold it is very hard to pull start. I can hear a squeaking noise coming from the lower unit.after about 25 pulls it gets easier to pull to where i can start the motor.

I have replaced a few impellers over the years and never had one bind up enough to make it difficult to pull, is this the original impeller or you replaced it?

Are you sure you got everything seated correctly in the housing? You didn't point the blades in the wrong direction did you? I just can't imagine what might be making an impeller bind, if it is installed back wards, it would tear the impeller up the first time you started it. How did the shaft look when you took it out to replace the impeller?

Was it hard to pull before replacing the impeller, if not I would pull the foot off and recheck and see if maybe something didn't go back in correctly

Maybe the squeak is coming from further down .....drive shaft seal ?
