The carb I have looks to be off of a 1988 XR150. part # 334330. I was rebuilding the carb and managed to stick the sharp tool I was using to punch out the disposable plug when it managed to perfectly land in the hole that sprays fuel in the carb. I tried fixing the hole but it managed to get larger. I have another carb that looks to be off a 1985 235. Both are 1 3/8 carbs. The biggest difference I can see is that that the chamber on top of the carb of which the fuel flows is permanently enclosed for the most part on the 1985 carb and the 1988 carb the same area is serviceable. I think it shouldn't be a problem, but what do you all think?

??? Sounds like you are asking :

I have a carb that might be off a 150HP...or not. I damaged it beyond use, but have another carb that might be off a 235 HP....or not. Do you think it'll work OK on a this other motor I have....it might be a 175HP ?

Is that anywhere close to your question?

If the site would actually post the pictures it would work nicely and be understood more. But The so called 150 carb is pretty much safer not to use. So yes its trash. The other carb I have is a 1985 235. Basically are the carbs close enough to be interchangeable? This is taking into consideration the same jet sizes need to go into the replacement carb.

The application it is actually being used on I felt would further confuse people so I didn't include that info.
I have just built a brand new Johnson 1979 235 from a brand new still in the box block. I was running the so called 1988 175 carbs and electronics on the origional motor. I just happened to look at the part numbers tonight and find that they were off a 1988 XR150. Which are the same carbs used on the 175 and 235 anyway, but with different jets

The 150S models did use the big 1 3/8" carbs in this time period. I don't have enough experience with mixing different carbs on an engine to comment. Carbs have different internal designs. Possible that in order to flow the same fuel, unmatched carbs may have to run different jettings in order to achieve the same hp from the pair of cyls. Having said that, I subscribe to the theory that all 3 carbs on any V6 should be of the same vintage (matching year and hp) on any engine. Jetted the same. It may work just fine. I comes down to: Do you want to take a chance?

Yes, After thinking about it, I agree. Too bad I can't use those metal float bowls. I have sanded the plastic ones as a temp fix.
