Hi i have a 1987 30 hp johnson the forward and pinnon gear are shot i was woundering if the forward and reverse gear are the same thx

Poke around on Ebay and see whayt oyu can find, frankensteining a lower rarly works and you will just be looking for a new on anyhow.

I have been down that road mixxing and matching gears to get a lower going and none of them worked, the tolerances in the lower are just to close to do in your garage and if you are off even a little it will come apart pretty quick.

You can find gears on Ebay and give it a shot but don't be suprised if it doesn't work, better to find a good used lower and just bite the bullit.

If the forward and pinion are shot, the reverse is usually damaged also with some wear or dings in gear face.
