Can I switch out Mercury 9.9 kill switch?

Hi there,
Just wondering if I can switch out the tiller arm kill button for a switch that would sit on the side of the engine? It would be much simpler to install and cheaper, if possible.

Yes, just need it connected the same way
Does it use a normally open or normally closed contact to run.

2 stroke or 4 stroke

The engine is supposed to stop when you push it. It appears whatever sproings the button back out has failed.

The man overboard switch is best if your going to we're the lanyard. If you just want to get a push button switch to kill the motor then find a normally open (NO) switch

Being a 2 stroke the switch opens when pressed removing the ground. Could find one at local auto parts or online

I was thinking right but typing wrong. You need a NO switch and it will make a connection (close contact) when pressed which grounds the magneto

How does that not have the tether switch? Just use that to shut it off.

Texas P&W Service, (the water cops) says that you need to have a kill switch connected to a lanyard that is attached to your body when operating your boat in Texas waters......check your state laws.
