Can I replace a 3.0 mercruiser with a yamaha 3.0l

HI I am new to the boating world, I bought a 1993 Renken 17ft bowrider with a Yamaha 3.0 sterndrive that I thought I just needed a new floor and seats but of course i have found the stringers are mud and so is the motor mount...haven't made it to the transom yet. I heard the motor start and run fine when i bought the boat and the oil looks clean so I think the motor is pretty sound. Well I've found a 1992 Invader with a blown head and a good floor..needs carpet, upholstery etc.. So the motor in the invader is a Mercruiser 3.0 and I am wondering if I can put my "Yamaha" 3.0 into the other boat and will it fit on the Alpha outdrive. Any advice would be appreciated.
