The girlfriend picked it up for me a few days ago, site unseen. I came across a guy in one about 20 years ago. I have always wanted one and now have one a very old one. I have had boats all my life, fiberglass one. Have rebuilt some before, but never a tin can. Hope the photos load.

I am working in Iraq and will only have a couple of weeks to work on it every four months until Dec then I come home for good. I have a T-top, console and leaning post to install. I plan on a 4 stoke in the 115hp or 150hp have to get it rebulit and weight it out. I have been lurking here for a few weeks. Alot of really nice boats and really nice craftmanship on them. I think I will fit right in. How bout it guys, Can I join your club and get a decoder ring.

B,
Welcome to iBoats! That's gonna be a nice fishin rig. When you're stateside, what's your location?

There are a couple guys working on Mariners right now, and a couple days of snow melt and I'll be ripping into mine.

We look foreward to seeing the progression of yours.

Blaster welcome to the club:)

Your decoder ring will be delivered promptly and the package will self-destruct after opening, so be careful:p

If I were you I'd check out NB's projects, he knows a thing or two about restoring old tinnies and he's about to start getting his Mariner back in showroom condition.:D

BTW...she sounds like a keeper(the boat and the girlfriend;))

Thanks for the welcome, I live in Panama City, FL. Got some questions,

Where is the vin plate?
Does anybody have the measurment for the placement of the console, boat has a plywood console now and even if the console I have is bigger 41'' wide and 43'' long. I need a starting place for it.

Anybody going to tell him about the fee?

Oh yeah, owning a SC tin boat suffices, sorry I forgot.

Welcome blaster! I have quickly learned this is the place to be if you are a Starcraft owner, great guys hang here. Nice rig man!

Check the upper right hand corner of your transom for an ID Plate. That is where mine was, though, I have an IO so yours may be elsewhere.

Cheers!

Welcome Blaster, I think your in the club now, pics are the requirement. Look at the resto's going on, I think I saw a new center console going in that will probably answer your questions. Good luck with the decoder ring, mine came with instructions, but they were in code:confused: Dale

Well from more pics I got the transom looks like it is going to need replacing not just the wood but the metal as well. What do you think?

But will wait until I get home to make that call. Got until I hit the ground in Panama City 11 March 2010. I already got some gluvit and think that is as far as I will get this 2 weeker.

Overhere? Many of us like to know where our fellow SC'rs are located, even just a hint.

Up to you of course but it helps to know.

Albert

Whoops, Florida right?

HaHa, I think BB's been in the coffee pot with Kev again:p

Blaster, It looks like the windshield should place just barely foreward of center on that model. I'll post up some brochure stuff for you in just a tad. We've got t shirt weather here today so I'm disassembling the big honkin console today. BTW, we got more snow coming tonight but I'm doin what I can.

Stay safe over there!

Hey guys got a question for you, with the gluvit do I put it on the outside and paint over it or does it need to go inside of the hull and paint over it. The website for it says you can add color to it which would make it easy to see when you have a good 10 mil on the surface. Also is 5052 spec aluminum plate going to be ok if I have to replace the tin on the back of the boat. Can I just weld it in place ? Also was looking at photos and I noticed a bucket in the outer skin, see photo. Will have to address this when I get there. Have a good one and stay frosty.

Gluvit is most often applied to the rivets and seams inside the hull. It can be painted over and used on the exterior as well, but is quite costly.

I'm going to hit the seams and rivets with two light coats and see how much I have left of the 2lb kit. If I have some leftover(probably not) I may use it a a sort of keel guard on the outside rivets as well.

Blaster, here's the brochure page on your boat. should answer your questions about stern thickness and give you an idea what it's sposed to look like.
