Still trying to determine reg/rectifier mystery, so I decided to install aftermarket voltmeter. Trouble is, instructions are to ground one wire, hook up the other to ignition wire. I have a 90hp '98 Johnson, but no wiring diagram. Anyone familiar with voltmeter installation that can help me out?

Re: Can I get voltmeter installation help

I'm not familiar with your motor but you might try this. Hook one side (the negative terminal) of the voltmeter to ground. Then with the motor not running take the positive lead from the voltmeter and touch each terminal on the key switch in succession while turning the key on and off. Hopefully you can find a terminal that has 12 volts on it only while the key is in the run position.
It would be a good idea to put a small (1/2 amp or so) fuse in series with the lead to the meter and locate it as close to the switch as you can get it.
Bill.......

Thanks, I'll give that a try unless I get a post that gives me a color code first. It's one of those six-pole (or is it seven)ignition switches that has plug connectors and very little working room, if you know what I mean.
