Its a fantastic engine, I just hate premix.
Is it physically possible to add an oil pump to this CV85 model or out of the question?

Would you install the kit yourself ?----Do you know that the gear to drive the pump is on the crankshaft ?-----Major work and paying the shop to install a system would scare you !

There might be a way to do it.-----Might look into whether a system like Johnson / Evinrude can be adapted.----Lots of those around cheap.

I will revise my no.

Given enough time and money, yes, the CV85 can be converted to an oil injection model.

$10,000 grand or so in parts might do it. New block, new CDI assembly, oil tank, engine harness and a bunch of other stuff will be needed. And the oil pump of course.

You need to get the parts schematic for the 90 hp and the 85 hp. The 90 came with oil injection and is the exact same block as your 85. Only the parts fiche will tell you if you can.

Yeah its the other gear the 90 has that is the real issue ie how decides to run lean on low revs not to foul plugs etc. Which is one of the reasons I dont want the CV85, but its on a sweet hull Im interested in.

2 stroke market is still quite big here, in fact 2s up to 60hp are still being sold new (although I think with the countries new commitments to climate change that will end very soon).

Quite funny a lot of people take their oil pumps out in fear that they will fail (I thought the outboard just gives you the alarm and puts you in limp mode, so you can make it back, slowly, yet see peoples complaining the Oil filter failure caused a complete upper rebuild).

I like my yamahas, pity I dont like premix fuel. Oh well, on to the next question, different brand.

oil pump is driven off the crankshaft, so if crank is turning the pump should pump oil as long as the pump has oil to pump.
the alarm system has no idea if the motor is pumping oil , just knows what the tank oil level is.
That is what sets the alarm.
keep the oil system clean and it works very well.
premix has worked very well also for a long time.
use good modern oil and there is no problem.
think about it a little they use to use just plain motor oil in the old days, now we have very good 2 stroke oils

Now Suzuki has or at least had oil flow switch from what I read in the past
