Can anyone tell me the year of my Johnson outboard?

Hi,I'm a newbie to this great forum. Happy to be aboard.<br />My question is....<br />I recently bought a 14 ft glaspar with a Johnson outboard and am trying to figure out the year of the motor. The Problem is that the serial # on it is unreadable (Its been scratched up bad and painted over).<br />The Motor is a v4, 85hp Powerstroke II Johnson. If I were to guess I'd say it was somewhere in the early to mid-70's. Can anyone tell me what year it could possibly be? Thanks.

Hi, Ho, Smokeymountianbacon and welcome aboard - I also run an 85 hp Johnson, however mine is a Javelin model. I have found it to be 1977. Please take the time to check the plate (usually found on the tilt & trim arrangement) and see the web site previously mentioned. The v4 85hp Johnson have been manufactyures thru to 2000 from 1958!!!<br />Best luck<br />Ross
