Hi all. Finally looking to buy a boat/project, and I've decided I want to start with an older ('50 - '70s) aluminum runabout between 15 - 19 feet. I've been looking locally and found this 16' Crestliner, but I don't know the model or the year and was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on that. I believe its welded (vs riveted). Thanks in advance.

Welcome to iboats

Motor looks like a 1969
In the 1969 - 71 Era, Crestliner did make a few 16 ft Tinnys, One was the Admiral, the another was the Flying Crest. and a Dane. However the First was a Car Topper, the latter 2 had a closed bow.

By the looks of the condition, it certainly is a "project". While the boat can be rebuilt for a moderate amount of money, the engine could end up costing you more than the whole thing is worth.

When people abandon a boat that used to be nice for that length of time, there is probably a reason.

Turns out it was a Nordic 17. The owner was pretty clueless about it and had these ideas that the boat was in much better condition than it was. I passed and bought a '57 Crestliner Voyager shell and trailer for $700 instead. Plan to take it down to bare metal, re-paint, build out the interior, and put a new motor and controls on it. My first project (and boat). I presume there is another forum area for projects where I start a thread so you all can laugh at my progress!
