that little metal tab on the bottom.
It looks as its to reinforce the copper "spring" in the points set.
Old point set didn't have that...
If it try to install it using the screw that holds the spring down that clip wobbles and wants to touch the timer base...
What am i supposed to do with this thing??? wrap it in tape or dip it???
without it the copper spring is pretty weak in itself, the old points had a lot more snap to them.

anyone anyone??

That lil metal piece IS the spring, the copper strip is only the electrical conductor. The spring must be installed correctly to provide the tension to close the points.

Yep, I agree. That is your spring. Why it wobbles when you install it... don't know. Might want to double check your installation.

its only 1 screw that holds the thing together... but its like the screw doesn't clamp down enough to keep that spring in place. I't only goes together 1 way, so it's impossible to screw up. I'll have to do something to keep that from grounding out.
Kind of a crappy design if ya ask me... the ones i took out didn't have that, and i've never seen that on another points set ever.
and it came out of a brp box to... go figure.

Here's an enlarged picture showing a set with the spring attached. Maybe that will help. (I'm not saying this picture is exactly like yours, but it may help).

Without that spring, you will only get about 1200 to 1500 rpm as the points start floating.

Thanks everyone, and thanks for the picture Fishermark.
I had it set with it just cliped on the outside, not with the copper wrapped around it.... i'll redo it on monday or tueday... now that it makes more sense.

i was actually getting about 3k out of it
I'll add this one to the list of issues this thing has got....

i hate omc.....

Boat fixed..... Absolutely roars now....
Now i gotta figure out the dang ESA system.... Its not shifting right....
Anyone got a diagram for that?
