This prop is on my 1979 115hp Johnson v4. I don' know the pitch and I can't find it etched on the prop anywhere. Anybody want to guess?

The 1979 115s were shipped with a 13-1/4 X 17, 3 blade aluminum propeller. The number should be stamped on the back of the inner hub, visible when you remove the propeller.

It's not the original prop. It's a SS prop. I took it off and looked all over the inside but I don't see any numbers. I'm thinking it's 18 or 19 and I'd like to get a 17 to help me get out of the hole quicker.

Its a 1979 Chaparral 19-foot deep V. It will get up on plane with about 500 pounds of people, but any more and it just pushes water at 2800 rpm. With less weight, it will top out around 5500. I've never played around with another prop, but I thought i'd try it.

With a boat that large, you probably should try a 15 pitch prop to start with and see if you can reach 5800 RPM with your average load. That might keep you from lugging the engine.

Because of the difference in rating, the 1979 115HP is about the same as more recent 90HP to 100HP V4 J/E motors.
