Both are synthetic 25W-40 oils, however they carry different part numbers. The reason I ask is that my dealer has shipped the wrong oil to me and I thought I work ask my fellow boaters before returning the oil for correction.

You have not tols us what motor you plan to use the oil in. Mercruiser 25W-40 is excellent oil for an I/O. 4 cycle OBs usually call for FC-W rated oil. The mercruiser oil may have this rating, and therefore be suitable. Standard auto multiviscosity oil is not recommended for I/O or 4 cycle OBs.

Thanks Chris, as it turns out the mercruser oil is FC-W rated and has been the oil of choice for the dealer over the normal 10W-30 non-synthetic O/B oil. After another careful look at the product line the only 25W-40 synthetic oil I could find on the merc web-site was the verado oil (seems I was mistaken in the belief that there was a 25W-40 O/B oil besides the verado oil). The engine is a 2010 90HP 4-stroke merc. All is now good and thanks for the response.
