i need to pull my 350 to put in a new oil pump in this week. I dont think the cam i have now is a good fit since it only revs to 4200 rpm and the power band is 2000-6500 or so. Here is the cam i have now

Comp Cams 12-244-4 "Xtreme Marine" Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft & Lifter Kit
Fits 265-400 cu.in. small block Chevrolet V8s
Comp Cams "Xtreme Marine" camshaft is the latest series of hydraulic cams to take advantage of the newest development of camshaft design and valve train technology. It has an aggressive lobe design that produces better throttle response than other cams with the same duration and they still deliver strong engine vacuum. "Xtreme Marine" cams can be used for any high performance application where both low to mid-range torque and good throttle response are desired.
RPM Range: 2,000 to 6,200 rpm
Duration @ .050" lift: 234/244 (int/exh)
Valve lift: .498/.500 (int/exh)
Good for jet boat with A or B impeller, good off shore high performance cam, rough idle.
Comp Cams 12-244-4
? Aggressive lobe design
? Excellent throttle response
? Strong vacuum
? Excellent in high performance applications
? Good low to mid-range torque

So my quetion is, should i keep this cam and prop to a 17 or 19 [ i have a 21 now ]

or shouls i change cams to a stock or little over stock to keep peek power under 5000

Re: cam swap help

What kind of boat hull do you have? and what do you have for all the rest of the components?

If you have a small and light hull, and not try to pull any skier/water toys, you might get by with that cam.

Something just a little larger than stock:
Extreme Marine CS XM 256H-12
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio 0.447 int./0.462 exh. lift
Duration at 050 inch Lift 212 int./218 exh.

Should work with stock vortec heads, too.

I've seen a few of your other posts. If you motor is worn, you don't want to bother with these type of upgrades without a rebuild.

Re: cam swap help

its in a 89 larson senza, the engine needs a rebuild i'am sure but i just want to get it to run till winter. I might not even pull the cam and just put a new oil pump in, maybe even check the crank bearing while iam there. My buddy gave me a cam thats good for 1000-5000 power band so it might be worth the change
