Flahthead, my '02 XL1200C has a Hayden H9 primary chain tentioner in it.
I've read a mixed bag of reviews on it. Some say it will disintegrate and cause lockup.
My XL has a very smooth shift hot and cold. I've adjusted the tentioner and inspected the shoe and all seems fine.
Your views please?

BTW, I'm positively mucho glad I bought this bike.

Skinnywater, I am not familiar with the H-9 tensioner, I have run across a few sportys with M-6 tensioner, I will assume that the H-9 is an auto adjuster. I was never really a fan of the auto adjusters, that being said those that I have run across seemed to be working fine. I have heard some complaints of them being noisy. I would say as long at it is adjusted right,, about 5/8 inch play in the tightest part of the primary chain,, and the shoe is not wearing badly or moving side to side you should be OK. I would inspect it every time you change the fluid.

Is there something happening to make you think there is a problem??

Sorry guys, I had to run out back to check the box. It's a M6 like you said.

No, I'm just one to get as much varied info as I can to make decisions. The M6 was already installed when I purchased the bike.
I've been lurking on sportster.org for quite a few months and there are people who swear by the M6 and people who don't. That's fine and to be expected. However, when someone raises a red flag on safety, it gets my attention.
I'll keep my eye on it and switch back to the original at the first sign of problems. The original with less then 1k miles on it is in the Hayden box.
Thanks.

I'll be getting rid of the dragbar that came on it for some bars that are less of a reach for me soon.
