Would a DFI Tohatsu be better at altitude than a regular 2 stroke?

I know that air is injected into the cylinder. Would it help any at altitude or would you still lose the 10-20% or Power at 5000ft?

Right now I have a Force 85 and it pushed the boat about 30-32 mph. The prop is a 13pitch x 14" Hustler.

Re: Calling Elvin

I have a Nissan 50 TLDI that I run at 4300-5500 feet. You will have some loss and you will have to prop accordingly. If you drop to lower altitude, you may not necessarily notice the increased power change as much as you will notice the RPM change in your propping.

When I purchased my TLDI, there was some question at Tohatsu/ Nissan as to how it was going to perform at altitude- for me so far it has been flawless at altitude.

Re: Calling Elvin

The only motor that won't lose power at high altitude is a supercharged or turbo charged motor.

I think that all the DFI engines, Evinrude, Mercury, Nissan/Tohatsu and Yamaha, compensate to some degree through hardware/software. But, as Bluewater19 pointed out, I don't see how they could not lose some. I'll ask an engineer and post the results.

And the answer is...up to about 3500 feet not an issue. After that, some have power loss and they have additional sparkplug wear. Some seem to run a little ragged some don't.
