Going to be in Cheboygan MI Sept 8-12th. Plan on fishing a few days in a friends boat. He is not now nor ever been into fishing! What can I expect to catch and what lures should I use?

I usually fish small ponds and lakes so this should be an interesting experience.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Re: Calling all Lake Huron Anglers

My dad's from Port Huron. He's caught a lot of walleye from Lake Huron using suspending lures and a heavy bell sinker. Use a split swivel tying the lure to one side and the weight to the other. Let the weight sit on the bottom, lift it about a foot, then let it back down. The only fishing we did was from about sundown till midnight for walleye. I've also caught white bass there.

Sure thought I would get a little more input here. Maybe the MI guys want to keep the fishes to themselves? I promise it is going to be a CPR trip 8)

Hey Dan, the walleye fishing has been steady for most of the summer...using "crawler-harnesses" You can also pick-up some nice perch and bass with the same rig.

The salmon are starting their spawning run right now...However you are in need of some heavy (and I do mean heavy) tackle for them. Also the tackle is quite specalized... But you can pick up a fish trolling or casting spoons near the river mouths...Just look for all the boats.

One reason you may not have had alot of replies, is because of the fishing pressure at some of the launches at this time of year...(again just look for all the boats) also Northern Mi often gets over looked from some of the other Hot spots...Best of Luck....RJ

Thanks RJ, Never heard of a Crwler-Harness before but it looks like it should be effective. Think I'll pass on the Salmon for this trip. My friends do not have any fishing equiptment so I am having to take my own. I'll update you next week. Thanks again!

Re: Calling all Lake Huron Anglers

Ok I am back. Plans did not go as expected. It was a little brezzy and chilly so my friend did not want to take the boat out.

We went to the marina and I did get to fish the docks, caught a 22" Pike. Scary looking critter, reminds me of a green Barracuda. Fished around the cove by his lake house and caught one fair size Goggle-eye (Rock Bass they call them)

So much for fishing but man was it ever beautiful up there!

Made plans to go up a little earlier next summer.

Thanks for the help guys. Sorry I could not put it to better use.

Re: Calling all Lake Huron Anglers

Glad to hear you caught at least something. Sorry for our unpredictable weather here...changes daily I know. You were wise not to venture out in the big water when the winds pick up...You should see it in November.lol.

Now you have an idea of what the area looks like and where to fish next time....Best of luck to you...
