How many here have a USGC captains lisence? Do you use it for anything? I've been thinking about taking the course just for grins to get the 6-pak lisence.

Are there any drawbacks to having one?

Re: Calling all captains....

I've got mine Mr.Ladyfish. I used it when I worked for SeaTow. No drawbacks other than having to keep current which is a challenge if you don't get very many hours behind the wheel. It is a very hard test in my opinion. Chapman's is a good study guide. Rules of the road is a separate section and requires a 90% to pass. Get yourself a set of flashcards to learn them, or make them yourself, it's the easiest way. A towing endorsement can be added by taking a very easy 10 question quiz. You will also need a list of your wheeltime for your resume. I got mine in NYC. Not sure where to go in your neck of the woods though. Corpus Cristi (sp.) maybe. Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions. laramide@gmail.com

Since when do you have to have a captains lisence to have a six pack?. :p

All joking aside, I'd like to do it too. Thanks for the insight DR. The wheeltime would be an issue for me.

I got the equivalent as part of my naval demolition specialist course. It is one of those practical things to have in your pocket, like knowing how to fly a chopper.

:) Have my Masters 100ton license!!! Renewable about every 5 years and ya have to keep up with your sea time!!! Regardless of the tonnage, if your boat is not documented, you can only take out 6 people regardless of the total number of people your vessel will hold!!!

All I do now is 6 packin!!! You have to like and tolerate people!!! 99.9% of my charters are great people!!!

GO FOR IT!!! if ya think you'll like it!!!
Mrs. ladyfish may like to do it also!!! We have a few women Capts up this way!!! ;)

Happy holidays!!!

Leave it to Crab Bait to add a little humor.I had to look twice to make sure it was a Mr. instead of the main Mrs. Does get a little confusing after a couple of shots of good ole Jose Quervo gold or some Mescal.I tell you that if a vote was taken right now CB would win hands down .Or is it because of his little he hees he comes up with on occasions.. :p
